Norway has completed its first electric aviation test project, marking a significant step in integrating electric aircraft into regular airspace. Conducted by Bristow Group and BETA Technologies, the six-month trial utilized the ALIA CX300 electric Conventional Take-Off and Landing aircraft. Over 100 flights were completed between Stavanger and Bergen, demonstrating operational feasibility in a high-traffic regional route. The project tested the aircraft's performance under Nordic winter conditions, including both Visual and Instrument Flight Rules. This validated electric battery reliability in cold weather and safe integration within controlled airspace without disrupting conventional traffic. The trial was part of Norway’s International Test Arena for Zero and Low Emission Aviation, a regulatory sandbox established by Avinor and the Civil Aviation Authority of Norway to accelerate zero-emission aircraft commercialization.
