We gave our interns at Framatome a challenge: Design a working machine control system in 30 hours. If you don't know what that means, keep reading. Nearly everything is made by automated machinery: Your phone, your protein bars, your car, your socks. Those machines operate automatically from code running in a #plc (Programmable Logic Controller) in an electrical control panel in a factory. Engineers who design these control panels need to know electrical engineering, software engineering, and mechanical engineering. Engineers who really understand their discipline aren't afraid to get up close and personal with the equipment, so we're having them build it by hand. Safety is incredibly important in a project like this. PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) like safety glasses and gloves are a must. Learn to do it safe; do it right. What do you think? Could you do it? Could you design real controls for a piece of machinery AND build it using tools in 30 hours? If so, maybe we have a job for you here at Framatome.
