I am incapable of separating my values from my small business or hiding them for the benefit of profit; the very ethos of Psyche comes from them. So let me be clear about where I stand. I am a queer woman who strongly supports LGBTQ+ rights. I believe Black lives matter, no human is illegal, migration is an Earth-right, science is real, and injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. I hope to live to see a free Palestine, Congo, Sudan, Iran, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Haiti—to see any oppressed or occupied people, anywhere, liberated, because no one is free until we are all free. I want more transparency and ethical practices not just in the jewelry industry, but across every industry. I want the fall of billionaires, oligarchies, and monopolies that crumble artists, activists, and small businesses while destroying our planet with their greed. I want to see ICE dismantled and our neighbors returned home safely. I believe in mutual aid, community, and that our diversity is what makes us wonderful. Thankfully, I haven’t gotten many “just stick to jewelry” comments in a while, but just in case: if you can watch the price of gold climb to $5,500/oz in about 18 months and not understand how jewelry is political, I’m genuinely not sure how to help you. Everything is political. If anything I’ve said above makes you uncomforable I invite you to have some hard conversations with yourself about what it means to be a good human. It feels wild to be trying to sell luxury fine jewelry right now, but jewelry is art, and art is one of my many forms of resistance.
