Some guys love the moment of walking her to the spot themselves — it’s intimate, personal, and feels like “your thing.” But if you want the max surprise factor, another option is for you to arrive first and have someone bring her to you. Both work beautifully. It just comes down to the type of moment you want and how easily she picks up on your nerves. 2. Don’t over-plan before hiring your photographer. Photographers do WAY more than take pictures. We help with timing, lighting, where to stand, how to keep the surprise, and all the little logistics you’d never think about. Hiring us early makes the entire plan easier (and usually better). 3. Pick a location where she won’t feel watched. Big crowds can make the moment feel awkward or rushed. Choose a spot with some privacy so she can react naturally — tears, laughter, all of it. 4. Practice the moment you get down on one knee. Not the speech — the logistics. Which pocket is the ring in? How are you pulling it out? Are you facing the camera or blocking her reaction? Just a quick run-through helps you feel confident instead of fumbling. 5. Have a post-proposal plan. A dinner, a family gathering, a champagne toast, or even just more photos — the moment feels complete when there’s something meaningful right after. Don’t try to pull out all the stops if you both are more reserved and introverted. - If you want to truly capture the moment, hire a photographer (preferably one with experience who can help you plan it all out) ! That way you can have beautiful pictures of the big moment to treasure for years to come. - When you’re getting down on one knee, make sure you stay down for at least 3-5 seconds so your photographer can capture that epic shot. - Try buying a thinner ring box so you don’t have to figure out how to hide a huge bulky one. Having a plan kept me calm and let me focus on the moment instead of the nerves. 2. Know what kind of proposal she’s dreaming of. This isn’t about what you think looks cool — it’s about what she’s always imagined. Big or small, public or private, knowing her heart made all the difference and made the moment feel truly special to her. 3. Have an after-party with the people you both care about most. The proposal is just the beginning. Celebrating afterward with family and close triends turned one pertect moment into a full night we will never forget. 4. Practice Practice Practice! I practiced what I wanted to say more t times than I’ll admit. You don’t have to memorize a speech, but knowing your words helps you stay present and emotional instead of frozen when the moment finally comes. 5. Get the ring right The ring doesn’t have to be the most expensive, but it has to be her. Pay attention to her style, her hints, and what she loves. This is part 2 of 2. #4 Make sure it’s a surprise: The problem is, your partner will want to look nice. If you ask them to dress up for no reason, it would be suspicious. You can ensure they are looking great by planning a decoy event - aka lying to them. Here are a few options: 1. Get your friends to fake plan a dinner party, a birthday party, some kind of celebration. 2. Another option could be to have their family plan a ‘family photoshoot’ so they have to dress up! Bonus points because a photographer will be there. 3. Finally, you could keep it casual by proposing during your typical Sunday routine so it is an extra surprise. #5 Kneel carefully I’ve seen people bash their knees on rocks, so just double check you know where you’re kneeling. Pro Tip: When you kneel, make sure you talk for at least 20 seconds. This allows your partner to truly soak up whats really happening and savour the moment. #6 Celebrate in style The proposal doesn’t have to end after you get back up off your knee. You can plan more celebrations afterwards. For example, I’ve seen people plan a surprise dinner with all their loved ones after, or a surprise weekend getaway where their best friend packed their bags. If that’s not your style, you could go classic and have a friend decorate your home with rose petals and treats for when you get back. The options are endless.
