Proposition 65 (formally titled The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, and also referred to as Prop 65) is a California law passed by direct voter initiative in 1986 by a 63%–37% vote. Its goals are to protect drinking water sources from toxic substances that cause cancer and birth defects and to reduce or eliminate exposures to those chemicals generally, such as consumer products, by requiring warnings in advance of those exposures. Here in Nevada and most other states you will not see these warning labels. I made this video to address this person in the comments specifically telling me to look at the great values luncheon meat. After making the video they went on to tell me that they were specifically talking about potato chips. I really doesn’t matter what the product is in California they all have the warning labels on ALL of them. It means doing the best you can with the time, energy, and budget you’ve got. And yes, sometimes that means grabbing the convenient stuff so dinner actually happens. The goal isn’t to be perfect. When I do buy convenience foods, I still try to choose options with better ingredients. I look for chicken nuggets and cookies that don’t contain: GMO soy: This is grown to withstand being sprayed with herbicides, like glyphosate, which is a “probable carcinogen”. 2 Non-organic wheat: This can also be sprayed with glyphosate. I think prop 50 is about a whole lot more than just trying to combat what’s going on at the federal level… It’s dangerous and everyone has been fooled. prop 50 is just another form of intolerance and silencing voices that are already a minority in California. to be clear, I don’t think any redistricting should be in the hands of government across the United States. Voting rights are the foundation of a functioning democracy. Right now in Utah, paid signature gatherers backed by millions of dollars have turned in enough signatures to try to repeal Proposition 4, the voter-approved standards meant to prevent extreme gerrymandering. Across the state, there have been many reports of problematic signature gathering practices, including voters saying they were misled about what they were signing and reports of names appearing from people who say they never signed, including individuals who were out of state or out of the country during the entire signature gathering period. Even if you never signed anything, check your name. Go to burrn.org and use their tool to search for your name. If your name appears and you did not sign, fill out the signature removal form and send it to your county clerk as soon as possible. Check for yourself. Check for your family. Check for your friends.
