No-Bake Chocolate, Oat & Protein Bites I’m loath to call these protein balls, even though that’s what I originally set out to make as healthy snacks for my gym-loving teens. The reality is, if you’re looking for protein, nothing beats eggs, lean meat, lentils and beans. But there’s another reality too: teens eat constantly over half term (and reading week), and they’re far more likely to reach for quick, less healthy snacks than cook something in between meals. These delicious little bites are made from good, natural, protein-rich ingredients, all whizzed together in minutes. Roll into balls (or press into a tray and cut into squares) and you’ve got a genuinely healthy, grab-and-go snack. INGREDIENTS for 18 balls (each contains 4g protein) 150g porridge oats 50g cocoa powder 70g flaxseeds 150 pitted dates 2 tbsp chia seeds 3 tbsp nut butter (I used cashew butter as I have one who finds the flavour of peanut butter overpowering!) 2 tbsp honey 1 tsp vanilla extract 2 tbsp water Method:- Whizz the oats for a few seconds in a food processor or bullet first to break them down. Add all the remaining ingredients and whizz again. Form into balls a little smaller than a golf ball. Lay on a tray and refrigerate for 20 minutes before decanting into an airtight container. #proteinsnacks #healthysnacks #nobaketreats #feedingteens
