At first glance this robot looks simple, but the way it moves is completely different from almost anything else in robotics. Instead of walking, rolling, or crawling, this machine literally grows its body as it moves. Developed by researchers at the Italian Institute of Technology, the robot extends itself using a small 3D-printing head that continuously extrudes thermoplastic material, creating a hollow tube that lengthens like a climbing vine. Because the robot grows from its tip rather than dragging its entire body forward, it can slip through narrow cracks, wrap around obstacles, and navigate spaces that would stop most traditional robots. That ability could make it incredibly useful for search-and-rescue missions, disaster zones, underground tunnels, or any environment that’s too dangerous or too tight for humans to reach. Quick topology checklist for clean subdivision models: 1. Use quads (4 sided polygons) as much as possible. 2. Try to keep face sizes consistent across the surface. 3. Edge loops should follow areas that might be deformed and should support important shapes. 4. Bevel connected edges together to avoid cleanup. 5.
