The Prophet ﷺ said: “Gold for gold, silver for silver… equal and hand-to-hand.” (Sahih Muslim) He also said pbuh: “Do not sell what you do not possess.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud — Hasan Sahih) Modern retail forex trading as practised today violates these principles through leverage, margin, delayed settlement, CFD’s and swaps, meaning people trade currencies they do not own or possess but enter long and short positions to benefit from price movements without adding any value or ever owning the currency. And most prop firms are even worse. Their business model is not trading — it’s people failing challenges, meaning the firm profits from loss, not exchange.
