I love seeing ocean aliens! This is salp. Salp is a marine invertebrate that moves by contracting & pumping water through its gelatinous body. It feeds on plankton through its internal feeding filters. When the plankton is plentiful, the salp can clog & sink to the sea floor. This sinking salp carries carbon & nutriets to the sea floor. Small fish can also use salp as a home, protection, or food. Salp do not have a brain or central nervous system. This salp was quickly placed back in the ocean. 🌊 @kaimanaoceansafari #salp #seasalp #tunicates #ocean #diving

Here are some general guidelines for each: Echinodorus Tennelus: 1. Lighting: Provide moderate to high lighting for Echinodorus Tennelus. This plant prefers a well-lit aquarium with around 8 to 10 hours of light per day. 2. Substrate: Plant Echinodorus Tennelus in a nutrient-rich substrate. This will help the plant establish a strong root system and promote healthy growth. 3. Water Parameters: Maintain a temperature range of 72-82°F (22-28°C), a pH range of 6.5-7.5, and moderate water hardness. 4. Nutrients: Consider adding a liquid or substrate fertilizer specifically designed for aquarium plants to ensure Echinodorus Tennelus receives essential nutrients. Cryptocoryne: 1. Lighting: Cryptocoryne prefers moderate lighting. Be mindful of providing some shade or lower light areas in the aquarium to accommodate this plant’s needs. 2. Water Movement: Cryptocoryne does well in areas of low to moderate water movement. Position it away from strong currents or use rocks and driftwood to create calmer areas. 3. Substrate: Plant Cryptocoryne in a nutrient-rich substrate. This will help support its growth and overall health. 4. Water Parameters: Aim for a temperature range of 72-82°F (22-28°C), a pH range of 6.5-7.5, and soft to moderately hard water. Vallisneria Nana: 1. Lighting: Vallisneria Nana thrives in moderate to high lighting conditions. Aim for around 8 to 10 hours of light per day. 2. Water Flow: Provide moderate water movement in the aquarium. Vallisneria Nana can tolerate a bit of current, which can help prevent debris from settling on its leaves. 3. Substrate: It does best in a nutrient-rich substrate, and can also benefit from the addition of root tabs or liquid fertilizers. 4. Water Parameters: Maintain a temperature range of 72-82°F (22-28°C), a pH range of 6.5-8.0, and moderate water hardness. Remember to regularly check and maintain water parameters and trim any decaying leaves to keep your aquatic plants healthy and thriving. പൊടി പോലത്തെ പൂവ് wolffia globosa Wolffia globosa, commonly known as Asian watermeal, is the smallest flowering plant on Earth, belonging to the duckweed family Lemnaceae. This free-floating aquatic plant is found in calm, nutrient-rich freshwater bodies such as ponds, lakes, and rice paddies across Asia and parts of Africa. Each plant is a tiny green oval body, typically less than 1 millimeter in size, without roots or true leaves. Despite its minute size, Wolffia globosa reproduces rapidly by budding, allowing it to form dense mats on water surfaces. It has a high protein content (up to 40% dry weight), making it a potential sustainable food source for humans and livestock. Recent research also explores its use in wastewater treatment and as a biofuel feedstock, showcasing its ecological and economic importance.

Porpita porpita, or commonly called the blue button jellyfish, is quite a cool critter! It is an animal consisting of a colony of hydroids! What this means is, that each blue button jellyfish you see, like the one pictured, is actually a colony of individual hydrozoan polyps, so it’s not a single animal but a colony of them! They can grow up to 3cm/1in wide and are preyed upon by the beautiful blue dragon nudibranch, Glaucus atlanticus! Check out @snorkeldownunder for more awesome videos of blue buttons and blue dragon nudibranchs!

Their blooms can be seen from space 🛰️! Coccolithophores are a type of single-celled algae (phytoplankton) covered in calcium carbonate plates called coccoliths. They can create massive blooms that turn ocean waters a beautiful turquoise or milky blue because of their reflective plates reflecting and scattering sunlight - imagine a tiny ball of mirrors! Blooms occur when conditions-like sunlight, nutrients, and temperature-are ideal, often in nutrient-rich upwelling zones. Coccolithophores play a key role in the marine biological pump and carbon cycle. They absorb carbon dioxide, and when they die, their coccoliths sink to the ocean floor, sequestering carbon. I had the opportunity to experience this bloom when visiting Port Alice, BC in @vancouverislandnorth, where the ocean waters are cold and nutrient rich!
