Instead of cutting through the landscape, the path bends and flows with it—wrapping around trees, echoing the city’s organic rhythm. Crafted as a continuous gesture, benches emerge naturally from the ground, inviting pause and presence. How can city infrastructure be reimagined as a public realm? Utopía Atzintli in Mexico City, designed by Manuel Perló, @tallercapital and @unam_mx, is a piece of water management infrastructure that doubles as the social hub for its neighbourhood. It is designed as a series of terraces that channel excess stormwater into permeable basins. These terraces also house several recreational activities, ranging from a community centre to workshop areas to a skate park. The project, which caters to over 7000 visitors every week, has doubled the amount of public recreational space available to the locals.
