The BIGGEST study mistake students make is thinking more hours means better grades... This isn’t true — especially if you’re still using passive study habits. As someone who has gone from not knowing how to study at all, to achieving a 99.95, what actually changed my grades was understanding the science behind why these habits don’t work: ❌Re-reading the textbook ❌Highlighting everything ❌Memorizing flashcards These all fall into the familiarity trap. Your brain recognizes the information, but it can’t recall it under pressure — which is why so many students blank on internals. What actually works is an active recall technique called The 4 Layer Build: 1️⃣Outline Layer: Write the topic at the top of a blank page. Add 3-5 bullet points you remember easily. 2️⃣ Explain Layer: Choose one point and explain it in simple language, like you’re teaching a friend. Wherever you get stuck = the exact area you need to revise. 3️⃣Application Layer: Create a new example using the concept in a different way. Solve it or explain it to build flexible recall. 4️⃣Integration Layer: And if you want to save 20% of your study time, use Leibniz’ tasks feature. It lets you create targeted practice papers you can download, marks the paper for you using QCE Syllabus ISMG, and comes with mark allocated solutions. It’s basically doing the heavy lifting of Layer 4. 📕I believe the people you surround yourself with are the people you become. 📚 Alongside the tips in the video, here are some notable mentions of tools: 1. Photomath: Analyses your maths working for instant answer feedback. This is useful for when you don’t want to type the answer into Chat GPT or another answer checking tool manually. However, this may reduce learning comprehension as you don’t comprehend how you got to the answer. 2. Leibniz Maths. This is an app that generates maths questions tailored to your states curriculum, specific down to the syllabus dot point. Leibniz marks your answer for you with line by line feedback that READS your working like a teacher would, and recommends you questions that you haven’t practised yet in preparation for your next exam. Game changer. 3. Youtube. Thousands of free tutorials, explainers, and educational videos on this platform. Absolutely my one-stop to understanding a hard topic #atar #aus #qce #highschool Comment ‘STUDY’ to join the Leibniz community!

Code MATTM for 20% off SimpleStudy! If you’re cooked for externals, here are the 5 steps I’d take to make an academic comeback As a 99.95 student Step 1: Start with the closest exam, or the one you need the best mark in. Step 2: Sit a practice test. Step 3: identify all questions where you got less than half marks. Step 4: write out the mark in guide responses to these questions to help remember then. Step 5: if anything in the sample answer didn’t make sense, find a YouTube video or class resources to study further. Step 6: Spend 3 days in one subject, then move on to the next.
