I mean, maybe it's okay if it takes some time. Our culture is just so fast moving, production-based. But writing takes time. Learning your craft takes time. Beoming takes time. Fnding the boldness --and acceptance--to truly be you is complicated & hard. But maybe it'll be worth the wait. • My story? I'm debuting at 43. I started my first novel 20 years ago. But I'm really happy my journey took so long. I'm proud of my work. My voice has assurance and is settled. I know who I am as a writer. I’m ready to take this author thing SERIOUSLY 🥳 I learned soo much from the @reedsy_hq conference on How To Get A Publishing Deal, so I wanted to share some of my key takeaways when it comes to getting traditionally published. Here’s my five-step plan: 1. Get my manuscript as close to perfect as possible (doing multiple rounds of revisions) 2. Get feedback (from critique partners and/or beta readers) 3. Read within my genre to find recent comp titles (published within the past 2-5 years) 4. Write an engaging query letter (let me know if you want me to do another video with the querying tips I learned!) 5. Find the right agents for me—and stay organized! (Pitch to 5-10 agents at a time, then adjust based on their feedback) I’m so grateful for the literary agents and acquisitions editors who presented at Reedsy’s conference and gave such helpful advice. Publishing is HARD, but we don’t have to go through it alone!
