Most people don’t realize that rabbis in the United States have a story that goes way beyond religion They started arriving in larger numbers in the 1800s, mainly from Europe, bringing traditions that had survived for centuries. Over time, they adapted to a completely different world, building communities from scratch in cities like New York, Chicago, and beyond Today, there are thousands of rabbis across the US, leading one of the most diverse Jewish communities in the world. Some are deeply traditional, others more progressive, but all of them play a key role in keeping culture, identity, and history alive And yes, here’s a fun twist most people don’t expect. Rabbis are not just about study and prayer. Many are into sports, including basketball. There are community leagues, friendly games between synagogues, and even tournaments organized within Jewish organizations. Not exactly an official “rabbi NBA”, but close enough to make you smile From ancient teachings to modern city life, from sacred texts to pickup games on a court, the life of a rabbi in the US is a mix of history, adaptation, and surprisingly human moments #usa #basket #rabbis #aiviral #aivideo

Hundreds of U.S. rabbis from across the Jewish religious spectrum condemned the normalization of antizionism in American politics and blasted politicians like Zohran Mamdani they say delegitimize Jews and fuel hostility toward them with dangerous rhetoric that’s become mainstream. But after two years of rising hate against Jews fueled by antizionism, does the letter come too late? #israel #zionism #jewish #rabbis #zohranmamdani

I had the pleasure of sitting down and speaking to Rabbi Joseph Dweck about the influence of legendary Middle Eastern singers like Mohammed Abdel Wahab, Farid Al-Atrash and Umm Khulthum on the Aleppo (Halabi) Jewish community of Syria 💜 Rabbi Dweck was born in the United States to a family of Syrian-Jews from Aleppo. He studied in Jerusalem at Yeshiva Hazon Ovadia under the tutelage of former Sephardi Chief Rabbi Ovadia Yosef. He also studied psychology and philosophy at Santa Monica College in California and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from Excelsior College. Rabbi Dweck received his Semikha (rabbinic ordination) from Rabbi Ovadia Yosef under the auspices of the Sephardic Rabbinical College of Brooklyn, New York. He received a Master of Arts Degree in Jewish Education from Middlesex University at The London School of Jewish Studies. Rabbi Dweck served as Rabbi of Congregation Shaare Shalom, a Syrian Sephardi synagogue of over 700 members, in Brooklyn, New York from 1999 to 2014 and also served as Headmaster of Barkai Yeshivah, a large Jewish day school in Brooklyn from 2010 to 2014. He has an eclectic taste in music and has received training as a hazzan in the Oriental Sephardi tradition by Rabbi Rephael Elnadav and Cantor Moshe Habusha. In his capacity as Senior Rabbi of the Spanish and Portuguese Community of the United Kingdom, Rabbi Dweck has the honour of being the Deputy President of the LSJS; a President of The Council of Christians and Jews and Ecclesiastical Authority of The Board of Deputies of British Jews. Rabbi Dweck also serves as a member of the Standing Committee of the Conference of European Rabbis. #rabbidweck#rabbijosephdweck#syrianjews#jewsofsyria#halabi#halabijews#halab#aleppo#aleppan#alepposyria#jewishlife#judaism#lauderdaleroad#rabbi#rabbis#jewishrabbi#mizrahi#mizrahijews#syrianhistory#jewsofsyria#mena#swana#middleeastern#middleeast#fyp#foryou#foryoupage

For the first time ever, Rabbi Josh Franklin and Rabbi Yaron Kapitulnik came together on the bima for a joint conversational sermon at Rabbi Franklin’s premiere at Temple Judea of Palm Beach Gardens, where the two will serve as co–Senior Rabbis beginning in July. In their dialogue, they explore the spiritual power behind the two ancestral names of the Jewish people: Jacob and Israel. Rabbi Franklin shares why he loves the name Israel so deeply — even giving it to his mini goldendoodle, Izzy. For him, Am Yisrael Chai is more than a phrase; it reflects the living heartbeat of Jewish peoplehood and the sacred community that the name “Israel” calls into being. Rabbi Kapitulnik lifts up the beauty of the name Jacob — a name that carries roots, memory, and origin. As he notes, Jewish liturgy invokes Elohei Avraham, Elohei Yitzchak, v’Elohei Yaakov, grounding us in the story of where we come from before we become who we are called to be. Two names. Two perspectives. One people. Which one speaks to you — Jacob or Israel? #yisrael #jacob #torahlearning #rabbis #rabbijosh

One thing I wasn’t looking forward in the year of mourning was the thrice-daily shul visits to say Kaddish, but it has turned out to be incredibly comforting. My Dad wrote his own eulogy and his last request was for Kaddish to be said slowly and with meaning, and I’ve done my best to honour that. It feels like my Dad is standing next to me when I say it, I feel his presence, and I feel comforted. Far from being a burden, saying Kaddish each day is inherently healing. It is a statement of faith and “we trust in God even though we don’t see the bigger picture”, but there is even more about the context and setting. Each day I find myself in chorus with other mourners going on a similar journey. We have lost parents, or spouses, or other relatives. Sometimes we stand together, and sometimes we don’t. But we all say in unison the ancient Aramaic words that have been said by generations of our ancestors, as they remembered their ancestors. And if anyone’s rushing through the words too quickly, on my Dad’s request, I’m there going slowly and often slowing it down. L’Chaim. To life. May the soul of Binyamin Ben Meir z”l, my dear father Barry Freed, be remembered for the good. #RememberingDad #Kaddish #SayingKaddish #memorial #memory #jewishmemorial #shul #synagogue #rabbi #rabbis #memorialprayer #yizkor
