This clip is awesome for so many reasons. The set up, the PCs computer, the lights, the crowd, but mainly it’s the music and the story behind it. It’s raw and PUMPING! The energy seeps through the video. It feels like I’m looking through a tiny window into Richards mind as he sits there, calmly turning his knobs, creating these industrial sound scapes. I wasn’t old enough to attend but I can imagine what experiencing this must have been like. What I didn’t know about this gig in Paris was that his monitor died half way through the first track which made the rest of the live recording distorted. On soundcloud, someone reached out to Aphex Twin about the show and he responded with this: "They used my soundcheck audio for this footage because their actual gig audio was distorted, they got the soundcheck audio off the desk, you can see it’s not really in sync. The soundcheck was not live, just me putting FX on over DAT playback. I’ve still got a good copy of the actual gig recorded on DAT which I should upload at some point if and when I get onto the gig files. Oh and my fu*kin monitor died halfway through the first track, was mostly off the studio 440 though.." 
If this was just the soundcheck and those were just FX, I can only imagine what the live was like. To me this holds up to anything "industrial" today. Timeless.
It’s electronic music like this that opens spaces and portals for us to experience something outside of ourselves. I did some digging and found info about the setup he’s running ...I believe the rack mount in front of him is a Quadraverb 20k, the mixer he has in front is a BX-8 (maybe a BX-4?) and I believe this is a Korg MS20 with an Ibanez TS9 on the keyboard.

 My favorite part of this set is the juxtaposition of Richard calmly consumed in the music while his friend, Paul Nicholson, is frantically dancing next to him shirtless, fully in it.

I like the Basil portland rack but it’s made for 28 inch roadbikes and a three point rack mount is most definitely the worst!
