My first rad tech week as a real rad tech was amazing! I didnt have to buy lunch all week🥹 our nurses spoiled us with a bag of goodies and our doctor kept us fed🫶🏼 he really does the most for all of us in the department all of the time. This year, National Radiologic Technology Week hits a little harder. Between scans, stretch breaks, and that one patient who always shows up five minutes before lunch — I’m using every spare second to train. Not for a new modality, not for another certification… but for something that celebrates who we are and what we do every single day. I’m talking about the ASRT 5K Run, happening November 8 during Radiologic Technology Week — a week that shines a light on the people behind the images. The ones who catch fractures before they become life-altering. The ones who spot what others can’t see. The ones who show up early, leave late, and still find time to smile between patients. Most people think National Radiologic Technology Week is all about pizza parties, cupcakes, or t-shirts (and don’t get me wrong, those are nice). But for me? This year, it’s about movement. It’s about doing something that reminds me why I fell in love with this field — the mix of science, service, and strength that only a Rad Tech truly understands. So on my lunch break, I’m running. Not because I have to — but because I get to. Because we’re not just button pushers. We’re problem solvers, patient advocates, and precision experts who make modern medicine possible. Every X-ray, every CT, every MRI — it all starts with us. And while I might not be winning this 5K, I’m showing up for the profession that gave me purpose. To every technologist out there: this is your reminder that our work matters, our stories matter, and our impact goes far beyond the scan room. Whether you’re in X-ray, MRI, CT, Mammography, or Nuclear Medicine — this week, celebrate the power of what you do.
