Raku Firing in a Trash Can Kiln, Step by Step Instructions ⬇️ 1️⃣ Glaze your bisqued pottery with a copper carbonate based glaze. 2️⃣ Heat the kiln, a trash can lined with ceramic fiber, to around 1850°F, cone 06. 3️⃣ Once the glaze reaches maturity, carefully remove the red hot pieces with metal tongs. 4️⃣ Immediately place them into a combustible chamber filled with shredded newspaper. 5️⃣ Close the lid quickly to trap the smoke. This is where the reduction magic happens. 6️⃣ Let it smoke for approximately 20 minutes, then quench in water or allow it to cool naturally. 7️⃣ Clean off the soot to reveal the metallic, smoky finish Raku is known for. This process is fast, dramatic, and full of surprises. Always wear proper PPE. Comment the word “RAKU” if you’d like to learn how to master this process on your own. 🔥 #rakufiring #raku #pottery #ceramics #arteducator

Pulled this 10lb vase from the Raku kiln still radiating nearly 1850 degrees Fahrenheit. The balance of oxidation and reduction in this one feels like fire and air agreed to share the stage. Distinct flame patterns wrap around the form like a map of the firing’s journey. If you want to learn how to master this process for yourself, comment the word RAKU and I’ll send you my FREE raku firing starter guide. 🔥 #raku #ceramics #clay #pottery #handmade

🔥Fire, smoke and a little unpredictability… I will absolutely go back to Raku #Raku #ceramics #potteryart #processvideo #handmade

Wait… pottery fired in a microwave? You don’t actually need a big kiln to start making ceramics. For small pieces, I love using a microwave kiln, especially when I combine it with raku like in this video. It’s a simple setup, but the results can be amazing. Did you know this was possible? #pottery #ceramics #microwavekiln #raku

Super excited, Raku is so unpredictable!🔥🔥 #fyp #artistmikequinn #artcollector #ceramics #raku

Pottery thrown and fired the same day is possible and heres how inc Pugs and thrown on a Small ceramics wheel using salt water to lube the clay. There are so many exciting changes happening in pottery at the moment and this Small wheel is a real game changer for learning, speed and cuteness! In this video I throw, bisque and then glaze my pottery in the microwave, its fast and helps me learn throwing and glazing techniques quickly - you can do bisque , earthenware and stoneware but I love Raku firing which im doing here, This form of western Raku uses a copper heavy glaze called copper penny, its a brush on glaze by @maycocolors that I get from @potclays . In reduction (no oxygen) it turns metallic which you can see happen in the video, then when its re exposed to oxygen it turns lustrous in a whole range of colours and rainbows. I will be demonstrating small throwing at @potfest.co.uk in Glynde (and maybe Microwave firing too weather permitting, ) so come and say hi, have a go and help celebrate a small but massively exciting way that pottery is getting more accessible and affordable. I have three books out, one about little throwing, one for microwave firing and one for people looking to sell their work. If your a potter or have any questions about clay, glazes, bisque, raku, earthenware or stoneware firings write them below and I will make sure I answer👇 Pottery is a community! I’m happy to share everything 🥳🤎 #pottery #wheelthrownpottery #instapottery #raku #potter
