Most people read around 200-300 words per minute, but some trained speed readers can reach much higher speeds. Reading this fast isnโ€™t just about moving your eyes quicker, it involves your brain processing chunks of text at once, improving focus, and reducing subvocalization (the tiny voice in your head that reads along). I learned this the hard way, so Iโ€™m sharing it with you so you donโ€™t make the same mistakes I did. ___________________________________ Have you ever studied a chapter, felt totally confused, couldnโ€™t grasp the big picture, and ended up rereading it days later? That used to be me. Iโ€™d read, highlight, and take tons of notes โ€” but it felt like I was just copying the textbook. When I finished, I still felt like I didnโ€™t know anything. How to solve the problem? Active learning!! โœ… 1. Break the chapter into sections and read actively Donโ€™t just read โ€” engage. Ask yourself questions, try to explain what you just read in your own words, and jot down sticky notes for concepts that donโ€™t make sense yet. This helps your brain process and connect ideas. โœ… 2. Write down what youโ€™ve learned (from memory) After finishing a section, close the book and write out everything you remember. This isnโ€™t just a memory test โ€” it helps you see if youโ€™ve grasped the big picture and the key ideas. If you canโ€™t explain it, you probably donโ€™t understand it yet. โœ… 3. Go back and check what you missed Now reopen the textbook and compare your notes with the actual content. Spot the gaps โ€” the parts you misunderstood or skipped over. These are your weak spots, and this step helps you fix them before they become problems later. โœ… 4. Fill in the gaps with extra resources Use YouTube videos, diagrams, research papers โ€” anything that helps clarify the parts you didnโ€™t fully get. But be careful: donโ€™t go too deep down the rabbit hole. Especially with research papers โ€” your brain isnโ€™t a hard drive, and you donโ€™t need to know everything. Just enough to build solid understanding. . . . ๐Ÿ”„ Bonus tip: Look things up midway If youโ€™re confused about something in the middle of a chapter, donโ€™t panic โ€” sometimes the explanation is just a few pages away. Study in sections, and let the chapter unfold. The answer might come naturally as you keep reading. I hope it helps!!
