There are absolutely no words to describe the pain of losing a pregnancy. It felt even worse for me when I finally ended up doing PGT and still lost the baby. I know all our hearts are breaking for @kelliegerardi right now, and can’t help but wonder why does this happen? When we were first trying and going through IVF, we were constantly told that the miscarriage happened because it was likely an abnormal embryo. So for the third baby, PGT became a non negotiable. But guess what? Unfortunately we still kept losing the pregnancies. Was Pgt wrong? Was it me? Am I doing something wrong? Well let’s break it down… and to be honest there is a lot we still don’t understand Why Can a PGT-Normal Embryo Miscarry? 💔 PGT helps select embryos with the correct number of chromosomes, reducing miscarriage risk. However, even a euploid embryo can fail due to other biological factors, including: 🩺 Endometrial Receptivity Issues – A disrupted implantation window, chronic endometritis, or suboptimal progesterone exposure can prevent successful implantation. 🧬 Embryonic Factors Beyond PGT-A – Mitochondrial dysfunction, epigenetic modifications, structural genetic abnormalities, or single-gene disorders not detected by PGT-A. 🛡️ Immunologic and Hematologic Factors – Overactive natural killer (NK) cells, autoimmune responses, or thrombophilias (blood clotting disorders) can impair placental development. 🦠 Sperm and Oocyte Quality – High sperm DNA fragmentation, poor oocyte mitochondrial function, or oxidative stress can impact early embryonic development. 🔬 Unexplained Factors – Despite advances in reproductive medicine, some causes remain unknown, highlighting the complexity of early pregnancy.
