Day (47/100) I have gotten 30 referrals during my job hunt, and in the past few days there have been numerous DMs regarding how I did it. For companies like Razorpay Groww Meesho I was able to secure interviews via refferals. This is a guide to how I did it, so that anyone of you looking for jobs can benefit and make some steps ahead in the journey. Sharing everything you need to know Refferals (Save and share🚀): Whom to ask(in order of priority because this helps with faster reverts): 1. Direct acquaintances 2. Your LinkedIn connections 3. People who have hiring label in their profile, just go to comapny profile on linkedIn-> people -> hiring 4. People who are active on LinkedIn, like just check their last months activity. I tried aiming atleast 10 people for one company. Sample referral Notes ( these are the exact ones I used) : 📍While sending Connection request: Hey [Name], How are you? �I came across an opening at [company] for [z] role, [job id]. I graduated from [college] and have [x] years of experience in the Product team at [company]. I find myself a right fit for the role, can you refer me for the same? 📍If connection request is accepted ( you don’t want to delay this, be very proactive here): Hey [Name], thanks for accepting my request. Sharing you my resume below, would be really helpful if you could provide a referral. 📍If they have shared resume with hiring team and you want to follow up: Hey [Name], I was wondering if you could advise me on how I can track the progress of my application at [company]? Do you have a specific portal or should I follow up with someone directly? P.S: Once I realised that only asking for referral isn’t enough, it’s equally important to follow up and keep a track that you actually have received a referral also. 💡This trick definitely increased my conversions of getting referred 2-3x. I’ve been on both sides - asking for referrals and giving them. And I’ve seen the same mistake again and again which people do while asking for referrals! Most referral messages go straight to “seen” not because people are rude… but because the message gives them nothing to work with. So instead of guessing, I created 2 copy-paste referral templates - one for freshers and one for experienced professionals. These are the exact templates which I personally use. Structured. Referrals change the game. Here’s the simple strategy I’ve seen work repeatedly for job seekers (especially newcomers and early-career professionals). Save this for later. Step 1: Who should you ask for referrals? In this order: 1️⃣ Direct acquaintances People who already know you. 2️⃣ Your LinkedIn connections Even weak connections can help. 3️⃣ People with the “Hiring” label on LinkedIn Go to: Company page → People → search “Hiring” 4️⃣ People active on LinkedIn Check who has posted or commented recently. 💡 Pro tip: Aim for 8–10 people per company, not just one. Step 2: What to message (templates) Connection request Hi [Name], I came across an opening at [Company] for [Role] and noticed you work there. I’m currently working as a [your role] and have experience in [relevant skill/area]. Would really appreciate connecting and learning more about the team. If they accept your request, message: Hi [Name], Thanks for accepting my request. I recently applied to the [Role] position at [Company] and would really appreciate a referral if possible. Sharing my resume here. Happy to provide any additional details if helpful. Thank you! Then, Follow-up message: Hi [Name], Just checking in to see if you had a chance to refer me for the [Role] position at [Company]. Also wanted to ask if there’s a specific portal or recruiter I should follow up with to track my application. Thanks again for your support!” One mistake many people make They ask for referrals… but never follow up. Once I started tracking referrals and following up, my interview chances increased 2–3x. To get a referral — here’s the exact way to do it 👇 First step: Go to the company’s careers page and find a *relevant job posting*. Don’t randomly ask for referrals. Pick the role → note the *Requisition ID / Job Code*. Now two scenarios: **1. If you DON’T have their email:** Hi, my name is XX. I have X years of experience, and this role aligns with my background. Would you be open to referring me? Let me know if I can share my resume, or if you can share your email. **2. If you DO have their email:** Hi, This is a job posting currently open. Requisition ID: XXXX Attaching my CV here. It would be really helpful if you could refer me. That’s it. No overcomplication.
