11 Things No One Tells You About Becoming a Nurse 🩺 1. You’ll carry stories with you: some heartbreaking, some hilarious, but every one of them changes you. 2. There will be shifts that you go home and swear you won’t be doing this job for much longer. 3. You’ll get used to the chaos but never to the grief. And when you do lose empathy, it’s time to change paths (switch units etc). 4. Fulfillment won’t come from praise, but from the little silent thank-yous, the held hands, the trust. 5. You’ll show up like it’s just any other shift but to someone, you’ll be the reason that they made it through. 6. The exhaustion is real, but so is the impact. 7. Some days you’ll question everything until one patient reminds you just why you started. 8. You’ll find beauty in the mess of humanity and humor when you least expect it. 9. You’ll grieve, grow, learn, and give more than you thought possible. 10. Some patients will leave a mark that you’ll find yourself thinking of them years later even if you don’t realize it at the time. 11. Being a nurse won’t just be what you do it’ll shape who you are.
