I bought and renovated an abandoned tiny house from the 1700s a few years ago, and here are five unique features I love about it. First is the window seat that my Mum made. It’s just such a lovely place to sit and have the sun shine on you while looking out to the hill or my neighbour’s garden. Be sure to pack your SPF50 if you’re a big ole ginger like me though. Second, are the ‘before’ pictures that I have hanging in the hallway so that as soon as you come in the front door, you can see what this place once was. Third is the tartan wallpaper that I added in the bedroom from @lucieannabelhome (not sponsored!). I felt like the grey wall I had before was a bit bleak and boring, so swapping over to this wallpaper has made it much more interesting. Fourth is the cobbled parking space out front. The house is on a street called The Cobbles and it used to be a cobbled street, but at one point in history it was tarmacced over. I always thought that was a bit of a shame, so I bought these cobbles and my Dad laid them to reclaim a bit of that original heritage that was once here. Fifth is the house sign, and name. I got this made by the village potter before they retired. The house used to be just called ‘the garage #store’, so when I bought it, I paid to have it officially renamed to Bowersburn Cottage because that was the name of my gran’s house which was my favourite place to go when growing up #scotland #renovation #homedecor #tinyhouse

We bought our house a year ago! We have renovated 5 rooms and the carriage house so far, with the playroom currently almostttt done! Taking you back in time for a house tour! 🏠 With the business closure, a baby and a reno going on I haven’t had the time to share this so I’m catching up now! We’ve been living here for 5 months, and even though it’s pretty shabby (spoiler: we renovated the bathroom before we moved in though and it’s lush) it’s got this special homely feel to it. When I first shared this laundry room renovation I got a lot of comments asking why I renovated it in the first place if it was “fine” before. I agree that it was fine before and didn’t need to be renovated, but it wasn’t my style and after living in this house for two years we determined it wasn’t functional for our needs. Also, as a designer, my end goal is never to strive for a space that looks “fine.” I knew that EVERYTHING from the “before” version could be donated and reused (and it was), so WHY NOT create the laundry room of my dreams?
