When a rheumatoid arthritis flare hits the hands, it’s not just pain — it’s inflammation taking over. The hands can become red, swollen, tight, and sore, sometimes overnight. Rings feel stuck. Fingers feel stiff. Even gentle movement hurts. Tasks that should be simple — gripping, typing, opening a lid — suddenly feel exhausting. This happens because RA is an autoimmune condition. During a flare, the immune system mistakenly attacks the lining of the joints. In the hands, this creates excess inflammation and fluid buildup, compressing nerves and restricting movement. Blood flow changes. Tissues swell. Fascia tightens. The hands feel hot, puffy, and achy because the body is literally stuck in an inflammatory loop. And here’s the part many people don’t realize 👇 Food can be a major trigger. Certain foods — especially sugar, refined carbs, alcohol, seed oils, dairy, and ultra-processed foods — can spike systemic inflammation. When inflammation rises in the gut, it doesn’t stay there. It travels. For someone with RA, that can mean hands flaring first. That’s why staying consistent with an anti-inflammatory diet isn’t optional — it’s protective. Real foods. Hydration. Mineral-rich meals. Supporting the gut helps calm the immune response and reduce the frequency and intensity of flares. But diet alone isn’t always enough... When the lymphatic system becomes sluggish, inflammatory waste and excess fluid don’t clear properly. That congestion can worsen swelling, pressure, and stiffness in the hands — keeping the flare stuck longer than it needs to be. This is where lymphatic care becomes POWERFUL. ⬇️ ✨ The Big 6 helps stimulate lymph flow daily ✨ Vibration plate therapy gently pumps lymph and reduces stagnation ✨ Castor oil supports inflammation reduction and tissue softening ✨ Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage Massage manually moves deep lymph, reduces swelling, and helps calm the nervous system — which is critical during flares This isn’t about “pampering.” This is about helping your body clear what’s inflaming it. ✨ There is relief when inflammation is addressed at the root. ✨ There is movement when lymph starts to flow again. #lymphaticsystem #autoimmune

This is rheumatoid arthritis. These are my hands today while I’m working in the salon during a flare. People call RA an invisible illness… but some days it really isn’t. The swelling. The redness. The pain in every joint. My hands are how I work. So even on days like this, I keep going… because life doesn’t stop for chronic illness. That’s why I created my WhatsApp support group— a place for people living with autoimmune and chronic illness who just get it. No explaining. No judgement. Just support ❤️ Link in my bio if you need it ❤️ #ra #rheumatoid #arthritis #Rheumatoidarthris #Chronicpain #Chronicillness #sick

Finger Deformities in Rheumatoid Arthritis: More Than Just Bent Fingers Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) does not only affect joints - it disrupts the balance between tendons, ligaments, and joint capsules leading to characteristic finger deformities over time.

Here are examples of 2 different patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Both at baseline and 10 years later. The 1st patient was not on any therapy and the 2nd patient was on treatment. I heard someone say “tremors don’t bother patient as much as they bother people who see them”. Ummm, beg to differ. It turns out that years of muscle contractions and tremors are taking their toll on my right arm. It’s wake you up in the middle of the night kinda pain and so far nothing is relieving it. Thankfully I can still use my right index finger to do all my texting and caption writing on my phone - which doesn’t annoy my kids to watch at all. 😉 This is Parkinson’s. And it hurts. A lot sometimes.

@dr_sidney_ortho 🖐️ Rheumatoid Arthritis: When Your Joints Turn Against You Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune condition that commonly affects the small joints of the hands and feet. A guided routine for osteoarthritis, finger stiffness, and that feeling of cold hands…I really hope it helps 🙂

After 14 years of working with my hands every single day… my fingers are finally asking for some support. As a manual therapist and someone with hypermobility, my little finger joints have taken on a lot—and it’s starting to show. So I’m really excited to be getting silver ring splints from my OT @conscious.connections.ot 🖐🏽✨ Not as a limitation—but as a way to sustain the work I love. These splints will give my joints the stability they need so I can keep showing up fully—for my patients, my practice, and my lifestyle. Support isn’t weakness. It’s strategy. #Hypermobility #eds #manualtherapy
