HAMSTRING CURLS (Rings) This exercise targets, as the name already suggests, the hamstrings. As an alternative to the conventional hamstring curl machine, we can also apply the movement pattern to a similar setting at home or outside. Ring Hamstring Curls wouldn't be my number one choice for training the hams (rather preferring Nordics or Gliding/Sliding Leg Curls), however, this variation is nevertheless a great exercise, if you are limited in your options or feel pain during other Ham-heavy exercises. Hamstring Curls like this can be performed with numerous suspension straps (ideally with sling trainers or similar equipment). 🔹 Regarding the setup you can use your straightened knee as a reference for the height of the rings/straps. Lay down on the floor and tuck your heel in. Put your arms down alongside your body and start elevating your hips. To initiate the movement curl your legs to your butt. Try to maintain your glutes strongly flexed. Note that this exercise will hit the hamstrings hard, so proceed with caution and regulate the difficulty by alternating the hip position (higher hips = harder / lower hips = easier - see the video for demonstration). 🔹 Are you struggling with learning new skills, improving your physique and/or want to boost your wellbeing? Your hamstrings play a massive role in speed and explosiveness — and they’re also one of the most common muscle groups to get injured. That’s why mastering Nordics is so valuable. This simple progression will help you work your way up to your first full Nordic. Follow for more tips!

Nordic hamstring curls 🔥 set up instructions if you don’t have the machine at your gym: 1️⃣ Load a barbell with weight. How much depends on your body weight and the surface the barbell is on. For most people, 135lb minimum is suggested. 2️⃣ Put a squat pad on the barbell, or some sort of soft padding for your ankles. 3️⃣ Roll the barbell against a rack, so the rack is in the middle of the barbell. 4️⃣ Place heavy dumbbells in front of the plates. How much depends once again on body weight and surface the barbell is on but 50-80lb is a general range to play around with. 5️⃣ Put a knee cushion on the ground or any soft cushion to protect your knees. 6️⃣ If you need assistance (I mean don’t all of us?😂) wrap a heavy band around the rack. 7️⃣ Place band around upper body, ankles under the barbell, and knees on the cushion 8️⃣ Curl!🔥 #hamstrings #lowerbodyworkout #gymrat

Don’t have a lying hamstring curl machine in your gym?? Try this instead!⬇️ Dumbbell hamstring curls are great because they force you to control the weight and feel your hamstrings throughout the entire movement, otherwise if you forcefully go too high or too low when doing these, you’ll drop the weight on your butt or on the floor, so a slower controlled motion is necessary. When doing the hamstring curl machine, I see SO many people throwing the pad around into their butt with their hips shooting up and they’re using so much other muscles to complete the reps.. don’t be this person.. but if you need a reminder on how to do these correctly.. go check out my previous form video on them! Now with dumbbell hamstring curls, the form remains the same, but here’s a few tips⬇️ ▶️Form Tips ✅Start with the tops of your knees up against the pad, this position may vary a little person to person but try to start and this and see what feels best for you ✅Keep your hips pushing into the pad, think about squeezing your glutes to help keep your hips tucked ✅Squeeze your toes together to help secure the dumbbell ✅Control the weight throughout the entire motion not going tooo high or tooo low. You’ll feel it when your not stable and balanced between legs so be intentional with your movement You can also do these laying directly on the ground, you’ll just get a little less range of motion, but they also work too! One of the biggest mistakes on the lying hamstring curl is setting the calf pad too high so that there’s no tension when your knees are nearly straightened. This is also the portion of the range of motion on the exercise exercise where the hamstrings will be the most stretched. Ideally you should lower the calf pad so that it is just outside your range of motion. Now this may seem a little bit scary but you’ll find that many times you can simply press your body up off the chest pad and “stand back up” to get off of the machine before you ever really hyperextend the knee. Just make sure you’re controlling the eccentric of course.

How to do Nordic Hamstring Curls at home with essentially zero equipment. Grab a bedsheet and tie a knot on both ends. Slide it under a door, and close the door. Make sure you’re on the side where the door is pulling shut into the doorframe. Grab a pad for your knees, and hook your feet into the bedsheet. Once you feel a good amount of tension if your feet, start working on those Nordics! There’s a lot of options out there for nice (and expensive) Nordic benches, and while I definitely want one, one day, this is how I started out working on my Nordics.
