Rob Hirst was it. One of my greatest Australian influences. A powerhouse drummer, an incredible songwriter, and a great vocalist. The Oils simply wouldn’t have been the Oils without him. He was such a huge part of that sound, that energy, that magic. One of my favourite songs was Kosciuszko. I could watch hours and hours of him singing and playing. So much heart, so much grit, so much soul. We were lucky to witness his creativity in our lifetime. Rest easy, legend. 🇦🇺🥁❤️

Fuck! Just heard that Rob Hirst has died…I can’t express enough how as a young kid growing up in the 80’s how influential @midnightoilband are to me as a person and to us as a band, particularly this 82-87 era of the group! I smashed my “Oils on the Water” VHS to smithereens I watched it so much and writing songs addressing issues of the times along with the “air of menace” they projected at this time is a flame that in our own humble way, we try to carry on!
