Unitree (@UnitreeRobotics) and Boston Dynamics (@BostonDynamics) Humanoid Robots Perform Backflips at CES 2026 Boston Dynamics unveiled a video at CES 2026 showing its Atlas humanoid robot executing a backflip with recovery after a stumble. The demonstration prompted comparisons to Unitree humanoid robots, which have previously demonstrated similar backflips. Although as seen in the clip, the Chinese and American humanoid robots both did the same backflip. However, Boston Dynamics, Atlas still needs improvements to catch up with it's balance.

Seeing them jump at the same time makes the difference impossible to ignore. Side by side footage shows a Chinese humanoid and an American humanoid attempting the exact same backflip. The Chinese robot rotates cleanly through the air and lands smoothly with full control. The American robot completes the flip too but barely sticks the landing wobbling to stay upright. This comparison highlights how much execution and control matter at the highest level of humanoid robotics. Backflips are no longer the challenge. Precision balance and recovery are where the real gap shows. Small differences in hardware tuning software and training data now lead to very visible performance gaps.
