Honest advice on learning robotics in 2025 and beyond? Here’s exactly what I’d tell you. 🤖 Step 1: Start with Arduino Don’t argue with this. Every serious builder started here. It teaches how code and hardware actually talk. That understanding never becomes useless. Your first week, just make things respond. Blink an LED. Read a sensor. Control a motor. Boring? Maybe. But you’re building instincts that carry you for years. Fundamentals never expire. Step 2: Move to Raspberry Pi Once basic components feel comfortable, switch to Raspberry Pi. This is where things get serious. It runs real Linux, connects to cameras, and runs Python. Python is the language of modern robotics. Learn it well. Step 3: Dive into Computer Vision Start learning Computer Vision early. OpenCV is free and beginner friendly. Teach your robot to detect colours, faces, and objects. Robots that can SEE are the ones that matter right now and in the future. Step 4: Learn ROS (Robot Operating System) Sounds intimidating, but it’s not bad once you start. Every professional robotics company uses it. NASA uses it. Boston Dynamics uses it. You need to know it too. Step 5: Don’t ignore AI Most beginners ignore AI. Modern robots don’t just follow instructions. They learn, adapt, and make decisions. Start learning basic machine learning alongside your hardware skills. Almost nobody has that combination. You will. Step 6: Pick a niche Choose one direction as you grow: autonomous vehicles, robotic arms, drones, or humanoids. The field is too big to know everything. People who go deep in one area get hired, noticed, and go far. Step 7: Document everything Document everything you build on GitHub, YouTube, or Instagram. The robotics world is small and people remember builders. Your projects are your portfolio, and your portfolio is your future. The tools are free. The knowledge is online. The only thing missing is you starting. ⚡🤖 #engineering #robotics #arduino #innovation

That’s the core functionality up and running. 👌 Still plenty of bugs to iron out, plus a full wiring and hardware cleanup to do. I also need to fine-tune the servo angles in software—some are only a few degrees off but can't be physically adjusted with enough resolution on the spline. It’s satisfying seeing this finally move after sitting unfinished for years. The red wires are even sun-faded now. 😅 I first built the hardware when I didn’t have the Arduino skills to get it working with my RC setup—but after rebuilding most of the code from scratch, it’s finally coming together. #hexapod #robotics #arduino #arduinoproject #robotbuild #mechatronics #diyengineering #roboticdesign #fusion360

There are many benefits to using ROS2 on a Raspberry Pi-controlled robot. ROS2 (Robot Operating System 2) is a framework for robot control that has been enhanced with distributed processing, real-time performance, and modularization, making it easier to integrate sensor processing, control algorithms, and communications. Furthermore, by combining Raspberry Pi and ROS2, it is possible to implement SLAM (self-localization and mapping) using LiDAR and cameras, evolving the robot from a simple remote control to an autonomous mobile robot. The biggest advantage of this is that it allows you to create a powerful robot development environment at a low cost. It can be used for a wide range of purposes, from educational purposes to prototyping, so it is a must-try option for those starting robot development.
