Most people would say “just loop it.” That’s how systems crash. If an API allows 100 requests/minute and you need to process 20,000 records, you don’t brute force it — you architect it. First, you calculate the constraint. 100 req/min = 6,000 req/hour. So 20,000 records will take ~3.3 hours minimum. Respect the math before writing code. Now the architecture: Use a queue system to decouple ingestion from processing. Never let producers talk directly to the API layer. Implement a rate limiter — preferably a token bucket algorithm — so requests are released at a controlled pace instead of spiking. Process records in controlled batches, not massive parallel bursts. Add exponential backoff with jitter for 429 or 5xx responses. Retries should reduce pressure, not amplify it.
