Nordic hamstring curls 🔥 set up instructions if you don’t have the machine at your gym: 1️⃣ Load a barbell with weight. How much depends on your body weight and the surface the barbell is on. For most people, 135lb minimum is suggested. 2️⃣ Put a squat pad on the barbell, or some sort of soft padding for your ankles. 3️⃣ Roll the barbell against a rack, so the rack is in the middle of the barbell. 4️⃣ Place heavy dumbbells in front of the plates. How much depends once again on body weight and surface the barbell is on but 50-80lb is a general range to play around with. 5️⃣ Put a knee cushion on the ground or any soft cushion to protect your knees. 6️⃣ If you need assistance (I mean don’t all of us?😂) wrap a heavy band around the rack. 7️⃣ Place band around upper body, ankles under the barbell, and knees on the cushion 8️⃣ Curl!🔥 #hamstrings #lowerbodyworkout #gymrat

Why they’re so good: • Build hamstring strength & size → especially the eccentric (lengthening) strength that’s hard to train. • Boost speed & power → stronger hamstrings = faster sprints and more explosive movements. • Prevent injuries → proven to reduce hamstring strains and support knee stability. Get your first Nordic curl ⬇️ 1) Significant foundation of knee flexion strength on leg curl machines (preference for the same with back extension and RDL to reduce risk of injury on this exercise) 2) Eccentric Nordic, partial range, gradually full range of motion 3) Continue working eccentrics, while practicing technique of concentric, starting with partial range of motion, eventually full range of motion positions. 4) Put it together Without a fancy set up this strategy works great. I’ve also had clients get their full Nordics by using forms of assistance, using incline Nordic benches, and more. So even for myself, this is just ONE strategy, NOT an absolute. Okay maybe this is a misleading caption, this is a very different exercise to Nordic hamstring curls , but for most I thinks it’s a nicer option. Nordics are tough to execute properly to get the desired effect, these exercises although more isometric , really do work the hamstring and allow for a safer progression and your athletes will really feel them working. In the video you can see two variations , one which is purely an iso, getting to the “biting point “ and holding , using the ball for assistance. The second one we lift a med ball off the ground and the aim is to keep the hips and back completely still !
