The casting that almost was — Prince as eccentric media personality Ruby Rhod in the 1997 sci-fi action film The 5th Element. Because of his tour schedule at the time of production, Prince was unable to shoot his scenes and was replaced by Chris Tucker. Shortly after Prince’s death, French director Luc Besson tweeted sketches of Prince’s planned costume that were put on display in 2013 at the Brooklyn Museum’s Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit. In 2020 I had the privilege of working closely with Paisley Park on their digital communications and social media strategy.
