Morning auditions/rehearsals anyone?!?🥵☠️ Someone tell me why singing at 10am feels 1000x worse than at 11am?!? That hour feels like the biggest jump! Audition at 11:20. Beautiful. Love it. I feel fresh, energized, ready to go! But at 10:30?!? My feet are dragging! Another question, what are your thoughts on marking in rehearsal? Do you always mark? Do you never mark? There are so many different tactics to the rehearsal process and I’m curious what yall do! For me, it really depends on where I’m at. If I’m sick, or fatigued, or burnt out, I’ll be marking a lot more frequently. That being said, I don’t mark a lot a lot. Did you know that there is a technique to marking?!? You can actually do more damage by marking if you’re not doing it effectively and your voice can be more fatigued at the end of it. I’d recommend singing on the voice but at the dynamic that is most comfortable for you! Drop an octave if you have to but not to the point where you are singing below what is comfortable. Shrink your dynamic and vocal range so you can consistently keep the voice in a healthy place. Other things to consider: -communicate with the artistic team. Let the conductor, director, pianist etc know what’s going on and what they can expect -if a passage is largely led by you, make a little extra eye contact/ connection with the conductor! Let’s them know you still know what’s going on and avoids disrupting the flow of rehearsal because of missed cues etc. -establish that you know the score early on in the process. Showing up prepared puts everyone at ease and builds trust.
