How to Eat Like a Medieval Peasant - Comment “peasant” for the recipe! #history #recipe #peasant #medieval #fyp

Dinner tastes so much better when it’s cooked in the great outdoors. This is one of my favourite, hearty meals to cook on an open fire. Save the recipe for later ⬇️ Ingredients: Big glug of olive oil 2 rosemary sprigs 6 sausages 1/2 chorizo ring 1 diced onion 500ml passata 150g BBQ sauce (we use @bullseyebbq ) One can of borlotti beans One can of haricot beans 4 eggs Method: Heat the oil in a large pan over the fire, add two sprigs of rosemary, let them sizzle for a minute then remove and set aside. Add the sausages, brown all over and then add the chorizo. Cook for a few minutes until the chorizo starts to release its oil. Add the onion and cook until soft (approx 10 mins). Add the passata, BBQ sauce, beans, some salt and pepper then bring to a bubble. Using the back of a spoon, create little spaces in the beans and crack in the eggs. Cover the pan with a lid (or tin foil) and cook for 10 mins. Top with the rosemary and serve with some fresh buttered sourdough 🤤 📍Filmed at @settlenorfolk #asmrfood #campfirecooking #campfirefood #outdoorcooking #bbqrecipes #englishcountryside #ukcountryside #norfolkphotographer #foodvideographer #firepitcooking #firepitnight #firepitseason #outdoorkitchen #outdoorcooking #campingfood #campingfire #campingrecipes

What’s your earliest taste memory? Out here, in the marrow of rural Romania, the cliché of “farm to table” dissolves in the honest brutality of the yard. This is sweat, soil under fingernails, and a cast iron pan blackened by a thousand fires. The produce isn’t arranged for effect; it erupts from the earth, obstinate and sun-drunk. Tomatoes that bleed when you bite them, as if holding back secrets. Dill so pungent it makes you forget your grandmother’s name. Potatoes unearthed with a ferocity that would shame city chefs and their sanitized knives. And the meats—smoked, brined, or spit-roasted with the solemnity of ritual—are the kind of flavor you remember in your dreams: pork with the chew and tang of woodsmoke, lamb fat rendered to velvet, chicken with skin blistered and singing the praises of open flame. The pan hits the flames with a hiss—a battle cry against blandness. Every ingredient is brash, unapologetic, and alive with provenance. The yolks glow like Byzantine halos; the cheese sweats in the heat, catching stray flecks of ash as if it were gold dust from an alchemist’s table. This isn’t cuisine—it’s communion, the flavor of things untranslatable, primordial. You eat with your hands, lick your fingers, and feel the ancient kinship between fire and hunger, between earth and appetite. No menu, no pretense—just the raw, ineluctable truth of food that tastes like the beginning of the world. Why do we fear dirt, fat, and the wild, ribald taste of things grown and raised inches from where we sit? Would you dare to eat like this—no filter, no distance, no apology—if you could? What flavor would you chase if you forgot what was proper and just remembered what was good?
