Kitchen progress update ⬇️ Our vision is slowly coming to life! When we bought this post and beam house in November of 2024, we saw so much potential. We want our house to feel like a witch cottage in the woods, like coming home to The Shire, like entering Hagrid's cozy hut 🛖 We've been doing all of our renovations on a budget, so it's been a no-demo reno so far, and we're so happy with how it's coming out! The elephant in the room is the kitchen counters. Those little pink tiles and the steel sink don't match the vibe at all. We hope to replace them with wood and copper at some point, but those are much bigger projects that will require a much bigger budget. Small homes are difficult because you likely don't have enough space for all your things, it can feel cluttered and make you feel constantly overwhelmed in the space. . . We have a tiny home and here's a few things I do deliberately to make our kitchen less cluttered and cleaner feeling ➡️ KEEP WORTOPS CLEAR Or as clear as possible. We only keep out essentials - things you'll use more than twice in a day. Toaster and airfryer is tucked away off the top. I don't have a microwave and don't miss it at all. [I can't say microwave without thinking about Nigella.. anyone else? 😂] ➡️ Hanging storage- This again keeps worktops clear, whether it's fruit spices or utensils... keep it off the surface. Makes cleaning easier, too. Hanging fruit bowl and utensil storage ➡️ Don't leave clean or dirty dishes lying on the side when you can help it! Always put them away. We are lucky to have a dishwasher. ➡️ utilise space above cabinets We use this for things I don't use as often like fancy bowls or baking stuff. I've put it in decorative boxes so it doesnt look as messy on the top.

Pairing a rustic wooden table with industrial metal chairs, unattached appliances, furniture, and cabinetry creates a functional, working kitchen space without the use of built-ins. . Mixing vintage and modern elements together with contrasting textures, colours, and finishes with open shelving in natural wood maintains a sense of simplicity and allows you to display curated, functional items. Yes it needs a little more cleaning than a fitted sleek kitchen, but it's worth it. .
