These loose dresses were called Changpao or Qipao. After the fall of the Qing, western and eastern styles combined creating interesting new takes on the traditional qipao, often with art deco influence. Towards the mid 20th century, the form becomes tighter and sleeves become shorter. We see it take on the typical body hugging shape we commonly associate with the qipao today. Finally in moden times, with fast fashion and cheaply made polyester satins, random chest keyholes, skin tight fit, no breathing room, and random sexual slits?
