Fraud is growing in Oregon and the tactics are getting more convincing every year. In 2024, Oregonians reported $144 million in losses, and older adults continue to be targeted with higher dollar amounts and more emotionally manipulative scams. AARP Oregon is working to change that with statewide fraud education, support for law enforcement, and policy efforts focused on safer technology. 🚨Denver scam alert 🚨 The courts here are warning about a pretty realistic scam making the rounds. To me it looks like the unpaid toll scam had a baby with the jury duty scam. It’s a fake court summons claiming you could have a warrant out for your arrest if you don’t pay tolls. It’s bogus. Please share this with someone you know who might not know this isn’t supposed to work like this. #scam #toll #denver #scammer #colorado

SCAMMERS are at it again! NEVER give your money or information to anyone calling and claiming to be a deputy sheriff. That's not how the Denver Sheriff Department operates. If you receive a suspicious call from someone alleging to be a DSD deputy, please report the information to your local police department and notify the Colorado State Attorney General’s Office of the activity by visiting their website at www.stopfraudcolorado.gov. You may also call the Denver District Attorney’s Office Fraud Hotline at (720) 913-9179. #DSDEst1902 #PhoneScam

🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨 Text message scams are commonly referred to as "smishing," which is short for SMS phishing. This is an example of an active one hitting Michiganders. Here’s what to do: 1️⃣ Do NOT click the link It can steal your info, install malware, or trick you into paying fake fees. 2️⃣ Look for red flags: Strange links, urgent threats, bad grammar, or claims that don’t make sense (like…toll roads here in Michigan). 3️⃣ Delete it + move on If you did click it, call us – we’ll help secure your device. Stay safe out there. The scams are getting creative…but thankfully still not very good.

Unpaid Road Toll Scams: Scammers impersonate road toll services (E-ZPass, Sun Pass, FasTrak, etc.) and claim that an unpaid toll is due. Victims are usually contacted by text message or email containing a link to pay. However, the link opens a fake website designed to steal any personal or financial information entered by the victim. There never was an unpaid toll due. #roadtollscams #scammers #scamaware101
