Bear with us as we get this resolved! For some reason every time we come back from a tour, we are being targeted, last time, our Facebook page got hacked and they tried to extort us for money. And fellow artists, please be aware of this, it’s becoming more common unfortunately, with scammers registering with distribution companies and putting these fraudulent claims. PSA: I got caught on a very thorough and elaborate SCAM aimed at artists. TLDR; got invited to be interview about my art practice and critical theory work by someone claiming to be Henry Perez all edging to work for XBIT magazine. We exchanged a few emails about dates then finally he said we would have to use the magazine’s “sponsor” new conference software called Lape.AI . When the interview date came I was told to instal the software and sync with my browser window and use a password. The software had to be installed via true Terminal on my Mac. My malware detection did catch their AtomicStealer being deployed but it wasn’t enough as it managed to rummage through and wiped out absolutely everything, crypto wallets, data, absolutely everything. I’ve been zeroed. appease be careful bc I am very schooled in all of this but fell for it as it came through as something that has been a regular Tuesday for most of my life because of my music career and then fine art: interview requests. Be ultra careful. Now I have to go back up my Mac and re-instal my MacOS etc. Still, I had a beautiful silver lining from a life realization through all this so I’m not falling apart emotionally; however, if you feel compelled to remedy this in any way, the useful links for this kind of support are in the bio.
