S C H E M A P L A Y ! Schematic play is when children repeat the same actions and behaviours as they explore the world around them and how things work. Observing schemas in children’s play provides valuable insight into their learning and development! I have set up this guttering alongside balls, cars, boats and ducks to support the trajectory learning schema! I’m sure the children will repeatedly enjoy sending the objects down the chutes. They are learning how objects move, with speed and direction. It also supports the transporting schema as children transport the objects from the top to the bottom! Guttering is a great addition to your outdoor play space, it can be purchased from B&Q and the play value it provides is amazing! Of course, this set up covers various prime areas of learning too. I’m sure it will lend itself to many games of “ready, steady, go!”. The development of their fine & gross motor skills will also be challenged as they manipulate the objects and control their movements. Socially, the children can play co-operatively, learn to take turns and share resources. A pretty simple set up, providing hours of fun & fostering deep learning! 🥰🚘🥎⛵️ #schemaplay #earlyyears #outdoorlearning #eyfs #readysteadygo #earlyyearseducation #earlyyearsideas

The transporting schema is when children are gaining a deeper understanding of how things can be moved from one space to another. Schematic play is very repetitive and sometimes annoying to adults, like when they are moving things all around your house! 😅 When we have a better understanding of how to support children's learning through schemas, it can be easier for us to manage 🤗 #playideas #earlychildhood #earlylearning #schema #schemaplay #childdevelopment #playhacks #ece

Is your toddler suddenly interested in spinning, twisting, or rolling themselves and objects repeatedly? They could be exploring the Rotation / Rotating Schema! ⁣ Zoe is deep in this schema and it’s really fascinating to observe. She is constantly spinning around or running around in circles, always wants to ride her scooter and has been particularly interested in playing with toys that spin! ⁣ ⁣ 🌟Based on the work of Jean Piaget, play schemas refer to repetitive actions and patterns of behaviour in young children during play. These patterns of behaviour are driven by their natural urge to explore and learn about their environment. The repeated actions allow them to practice and construct meaning in what they are doing.⁣ ⁣ 👉Have you heard of play schemas before? ⁣ ⁣ ⁣Make sure to ❤️LIKE 📥SAVE and ⁣ ✈️SHARE this post! ⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #schema⁣⁣ #rotationschema⁣ #rotatingschema⁣ #learningthroughplay ⁣⁣ #playschemas ⁣⁣ #schematicplay⁣⁣ #developmentalstages ⁣⁣ #toddlerdevelopment ⁣ #busykids ⁣ #childhoodunplugged ⁣ #raisingchildren ⁣ #childdevelopment ⁣ #parentingwithintention ⁣ #parentingtips⁣ #toddleractivities

Rotation (or rotational) play schema When exploring this play schema, children will repeatedly spin around their axis, either by themselves or with the help of a tool such as a swing. They will also enjoy toys with rotating properties such as wheels on toy cars or a spinning top. How to support rotation schema? The best is providing plenty of space for children to spin so that if they fall, they don't hit any furniture. Swings and merry-go-rounds on the playground are great for spinning, so are hanging chairs / ropes at home. It seems that both my son (4yo) and my daughter (16mo) are often exploring the same play schema simultaneously. I guess it's because they imitate what the other is doing. And the more they do something their body needs, the more they want to do it. Interesting facts: Spinning is one of the best movements for developing proprioception (sense of where our body is in space) and vestibular sense (also known as the balance / gravity sense). Spinning therefore contributes to body awareness and make children be more coordinated and fall less. Have you observed your child exploring this schema? P.s. Okay… how cute is this game?! You have probably noticed that I’ve been a little obsessed with my new @creality3d K2 Plus Combo 3D printer lately, and this little gem is another one of my favourite prints so far. It’s simple, fun, and full of learning opportunities. Colour recognition, sequencing, fine motor skills, turn-taking, communication. This one packs a punch, especially for the beginning of the school year when we’re really focusing on building those foundational skills. There are a couple of fun ways to play (but I’m sure our learners will think of more). You can roll the die and build your stack by matching the colours rolled or challenge yourself to roll and build a specific sequence. You can play it solo or with a friend, and I love that either way, learners are practising patience, persistence, and communication while having fun. And those little hexagon pieces? They are SO stinkin’ cute. I’m already planning to print more just to use as loose parts for invitations to play. They’re going to be perfect in our play centres and probably show up in a million other ways I haven’t even thought of yet. And I have to say, the Creality K2 Plus Combo has been amazing. It’s printing beautifully every time, and this file even includes a sweet little storage box for the game when you’re done playing. I mean…yes, please! Do you use games like this to introduce turn-taking and collaboration at the start of the year? Would your learners love this one too? And now I’m curious, if you had a 3D printer, what’s the first thing you’d want to print? Want to print your own? Hit the like button ❤️ and leave a comment and I’ll send the print file your way! #earlymath #earlymaths #earlymathskills #earlymathsfun #earlyyearseducator #earlyyearseducation #earlyyears #earlyyearsideas #play #playbasedlearning #playbased #teachergram #kindergarten #teachersofinstagram #kindergartenteacher #earlychildhoodeducation #fdk #ontarioteacher #3dprints #3dprinter #creality #creality3d #crealityk2pluscombo #maker #diyteacher #creativity #gamesforkids #mathgames

For classroom teachers heading back into school, theater games can help salve the wounds of the past year. You certainly don't need to be a drama teacher to play them. Put games in the center of your morning meetings, brain breaks, and closing circles. In addition to social-emotional support, they can reinforce academic facts so kids are learning through play. An example of one of these games is “Machine”. It is a classic theater exercise that supports community, listening and positive risk-taking. 🖋 Create a title that supports your social-emotional learning goals like “My Year of Distance Learning” or “Summer Vacation.” 📣Have students add on with sound and motion one at a time. Encourage vocal variety and physical levels 🔧The machine can slow down, speed up or even break! Here, watch our teachers play Machine as we model the game for students during an in-school residency. When they play, students are part of a team working together to express something wordlessly and using their body as an instrument. This game is also magical at helping kids practice listening and turn-taking. Weave it into your ELA studies by having students make machines for one of the characters in the literature you are reading or an event in history. As always, DM me with questions or learn more about our in-school residencies at childsplayny.com

When toddlers repeats certain behaviours over and over again during time they are exploring schemas. Schematic play happens when toddlers display repeated actions or behaviours as they explore the world around them and try to find out how things work. Repeated actions helps their brain development and learning as they grow. My toddler has been exploring the enveloping schema lately. This involves him covering things and hiding them away from the line of vision. Most annoying, putting things in our garbage bin 😂🙈. Focusing his interests in activities that help him explore this deter his energy from the bin! Other activities that explore the enveloping schema 👉🏻 wrapping toys in silks or blankets 👉🏻 hiding toys in a cardboard box 👉🏻Burying things in the sandpit 👉🏻Playing Peek a Boo 👉🏻 Wrapping presents 👉🏻 Engaging in a game of hide and seek Does your toddler love exploring the enveloping schema? #schematicplay #schemasofplay #envelopingschema #toddlerdevelopment #toddleractivities #magnetictoddleractivities #magnetic #magnetictiles #magnetictilescreations #magnetictilesideas #magnetictilesaustralia #learnandgrow #learnandgrowtoys #connetixtiles #connetix #childdevelopment #learningthroughplay
