School-based OT is about access. If a student is struggling to regulate, manage materials, or complete classroom tasks, we step back and ask: What’s getting in the way of participation? Sometimes we build underlying skills. Sometimes we adapt the environment. Often, it’s both. The goal isn’t perfection. It’s about meaningful participation. #schoolbasedot #pediatricot #occupationaltherapy #sensoryprocessing

It’s all fun and games (literally) until it’s time to transition back to their classroom after occupational therapy💔 I mean… I get it! My room is FILLED with sensory rich equipment and environments, including sensory bins and tunnels, and a trampoline and an exercise ball and a spinning chair, squishy toys, bubbles, blocks & puzzles, YOU NAME IT. 🌟 And around here? We are child-led, so the therapy room is often a child’s favorite place to be (but we definitely have our hard moments and days!!) But working in a school and watching this happen all day, has got me thinking… how can we make the classroom environments more child-led and sensory/movement rich and motivating for these students?? 🤔 I NEED to know your thoughts & experience ⬇️ #occupationaltherapy #schoolbasedot

Imagine walking into every session with confidence instead of scrambling for ideas… that’s exactly what my Mega Interventions Bundle gives you! One resource, dozens of activities, & an entire year of stress-free OT planning 🙌 #OT #schoolOT #schoolbasedot

Handwriting relies on more than just pencil grip. Wrist strength and stability play a big role in helping students write comfortably and with control. These are a few activities I use in OT sessions to build wrist strength through movement and play. #pediatricot #schoolbasedot #learntowrite #handwriting #kindergartenteachers

Need an activity that works on matching, letter recognition, cutting and fine motor skill? Here it is! #otactivities #missjaimeot #schoolbasedot

Some absolutely unhinged things I recommend as a school-based occupational therapist: • Double recess — more movement helps kids regulate and focus. • Snacks throughout the day — steady fuel supports attention and stamina. • Let kids start a weaving project — repetitive hand work can calm the nervous system and build focus. • Remove everything from the walls (except the fire evacuation plan) — less visual noise helps kids attend to what actually matters. Maybe it works. Maybe it doesn’t. Would you try any of these? 🧵🍎🏃♀️

School OT is so much more than what it looks like 👀✨ Every check-in, every movement break, every task = purposeful, skilled intervention. We’re not just helping them complete tasks, we’re helping them become independent. __ #schoolot #occupationaltherapy #pediatrictot #executivefunctioning #schoolbasedot

Okay but real life… we are a little embarrassed 😂 BUT we’re sharing anyway because this is what we do every day in our SPOT groups 💚 ( Speech + OT working together 🙌 ) Easy, engaging activities that target fine motor and language with visual supports ✨ Follow along for simple group ideas you can actually use!

A few years ago when my son was struggling with reading, attention, and confidence, I started doing these activities with him—and the difference over time has been HUGE. As an OT, I knew they could help… but as a busy working mom with ADHD, the hardest part in the beginning was implementing them consistently. So I created a way to make it easier— for myself and for other families who could benefit 🤍 Now, he’s consistently on honor roll, more confident, more coordinated, and more willing to try new things. It didn’t happen overnight—but I promise, if you stay consistent with these simple “brain + body” workouts, you WILL see a meaningful difference. Comment FOCUS and I’ll send you a free no-equipment routine 👇

Continuing our #OTmonth series with a focus on occupations ✨ - every day, our OTs aim to build the skills necessary for independence in these areas with the goal of making daily life smoother for our patients and their families 😉 #pediatricoccupationaltherapy #pediatricOT #occupationaltherapy

Want to try this activity at home!? ✨ You can replicated this activity with a peanut or even typical yoga ball (if you don’t have either you can just use the lounge 🛋️) and some beanbags!! 🌱 For the littles the swap out of the yoga ball for a rolled up towel or a foam roller and that will work just as well!! Now you’re ready to call out some colours and get this at home OT activity on the way. 😊🌈 #therapyathome #ot #therapiesforkids #physiotherapy #occupationaltherapy #speechpathology #kids #kidstherapy #sydney #innerwest
