Don’t Let the Tighthead Get Comfortable 🦍 We want our loosehead and hooker working together as a tight unit against the opposition tighthead. By getting the shoulder as tight to the hooker as the referee allows, you don’t give the tighthead a lot of space to work with. With the shoulder all the way out you’ve now made it easier for the tighthead to split you. Some refs are harsher on hiding the shoulder than others, so make sure to play to the ref but this can be a potent way of keep the opposition tighthead in a more uncomfortable position and scrumming on your terms. I’m also a fan of taking a looser bind as a tighthead to allow them to work with more freeedom against the opposition loosehead and have an easier time fighting out. Stay square and stay tight. Scrumming 101. LH high hand shoot, is an excellent tool to add to your toolbelt. This is not the be all end of scrumming. Using your binding arm to cramp the TH and open his chest, provides opportunity to get a stronger hit. Note: not everywhere rep needs to be as exaggerated as the example above. Use your body mechanics to your advantage.
