Security+ is NOT an entry-level cert if you don’t have IT fundamentals. No networking basics, no operating systems, no real troubleshooting = you’re just memorizing terms. This tech certification changed my life. Follow these steps to get started in tech. First I want to say that the Security+ is good for entry level IT jobs, not going straight to cybersecurity if you have no experience this is what most people won't tell you. 1. Get your Security+ and learn foundational IT skills (ticketing systems, troubleshooting, remote desktop, active directory, and basic networking) you can learn all this on YouTube. 2. Redo your resume so it's more tech focused. I recommend using ChatGPT or Claude (Claude is better imo) 3. Start mass applying to entry level IT roles (0-3 years of experience) apply to 10 jobs a day 4. Land your first IT role 5. Gain more cybersecurity skills/certs (your company can pay for these now) then job hop into a cybersecurity role in your first 6-8 months working in tech.
