Enjoying the wind in one’s face and the perfect view: first on the open funicular. Since 1893, the open wood coaches have been travelling sedately up towards Stanserhorn from Stans. Starting at the intermediate station, the aerial cableway with its open roof deck is one of the main attractions. I was feeling fairly brave today so headed off piste thinking I’d walk sedately down the path and around the field perimeter. I then had plans to break all pony club rules and put the pedal to the metal back up the hill to the gate back onto the road. What I found infuriatingly was really soggy ground. Still. My hair always looks wild after a facial. But whatever, anyway, I keep thinking things will settle down and I’ll have time to sedately plan my life and do all the things. Yoga classes marketed for beginners need to be appropriate FOR BEGINNERS. Yes, “beginner” can mean a tonne of different things. Someone who’s been a gymnast for 10 years but never practised asana will move very differently to someone who lives a sedately lifestyle, doesn’t exercise and has never practised asana. My point is, if a class is labelled “beginner” it NEEDS (amongst other things) to be: ✔️ accessible ✔️ inclusive ✔️ offer options, modifications, pauses, rest, etc ✔️ offer greater explanation into poses and the breath ✔️ offer empathy and compassion As teachers we want to spread the message that yoga is for EVERYONE.
