There’s always something to learn from water. Its unpredictable, organic nature is influenced by so many factors. From where my mind is at to the slightest way I hold a brush, or how patiently I pour the paint. If the air is still or there’s movement, even my breath can shift the outcome. A slight bend in the drop cloth beneath can cause the paint to flow differently than I expected. I’ve had to learn to adapt—to accept when the paint decides to do its own thing. Often, I’ve had to pivot to still capture the vision I had for the work or create a new one entirely. It’s not ambiguous; it’s not without direction. I always have a clear path for my work, but, like life, that path often changes, and a new one opens up. What seemed like a good idea often transforms into a better one when you don’t fight the process. It took me a while to learn this—years of patience. My work has changed me, or maybe it’s uncovered something in me I didn’t know was there. Water captures so much: a thought, a memory, a place. But it also holds, in each painting, a message—a snapshot of the time and place where my head and heart were as I created it. #abstractexpressionism #contemporaryartist #abstractpainting #contemporaryart #modernart
