This cat was spotted by a third story resident and birdwatcher, Jessie. Jessie saw this enormous loaf on the tree and called me to help maybe find a climber in her area. I was unable to find someone local, so up to Sidney I went. This cat had been up there over 24hrs before I could make it up to Sidney to give him a lift. Jessie is allergic to cats but wanted to do whatever it takes to help this big fella. She found a Sidney resident that was happy to take the cat in if I were able to get ahold of him. This video captures the isolation and distant feeling of being at height in the dead of winter. The cold. The wind blowing. The stillness. I am glad this big guy let me touch him. After three days of cries for help, a stranded cat was finally rescued by a professional climber scaling a tall tree.

🌲🐾 60 Feet Up… and Running Out of Time 🐾🌲 9-month-old Max had been chased 60 feet up a tree. For two full days he was stuck there — too high, too scared, and too exhausted to come down. There’s a common myth that cats will always come down on their own. The reality is that it’s not always possible. A cat’s claws are designed to grip when climbing up. Coming down requires them to descend backwards, slowly gripping the bark the entire way. When a cat climbs too high, becomes frightened, or the tree is too steep or smooth, they can become trapped. Add in cold temperatures, hunger, and exhaustion, and they quickly become weak and lethargic. That’s where Max was. Crying. Cold. Stuck. His family had made desperate pleas for help, but no one answered. We did! We sent Dad (Dan) out to assess. His ladder reaches 30 feet… but Max was double that. And because of the access at the base of the tree, Dan knew right away we needed an arborist/RAPPELER. And this is where Sarah Saddie became absolutely paramount to this rescue. Sarah immediately stepped in, made calls, and connected us with Thomas at Borer’s Falls Tree Service, who had actually rescued a cat from a tree last year — a story that even made CHCH News. Without Sarah making that connection, Max may still have been up there. Thomas sent Liam and Reese. We waited at the property while they assessed the tree. Then Reese began the climb. From the ground, Liam played the equally important role of guarding Reese’s safety, spotting and guiding as he worked his way higher. Reese climbed… and climbed… until he reached Max. Just as we coached, Reese talked to Max the entire time — calm, steady, reassuring. No sudden movements. Just patience. And slowly… carefully… Max was "in the bag" on his way down to safety. His family was ecstatic. Huge risks were taken tonight to save a frightened little life. What a way to spend a Friday night. A very special thank you to Sarah for stepping in when this situation felt impossible and making the connection that ultimately saved Max. Midnight, an always indoor kitten, slipped out of her Newark, Ohio home next to a busy thoroughfare. Lucky for her she ran up a tree rather than into traffic. It is a scary world out there, especially when it is cold and rainy, in a tree next to a transformer. Midnight was so sweet and happy to see me. Made for a quick turnaround. Total time on site was 18minutes. I was tempted to upload the whole unedited footage. A concerned neighbor noticed this cat in the top of the tree and reached out to me for help. When I was halfway up the tree, the cats owners arrived. don't care how silly it looks we always make sure any wildlife we disturb is both safely and peacefully taken to a new home! in this instance we found a couple baby squirrels while cutting down this pine and immediately wrapped them up in a towel for warmth.
