Just want to preference by saying (I AM STILL LEARNING) These warm ups definitely significantly improved my setting hands. Setting Techniques with @coachjv303 🏐🙌 A little sneak peak for you here at our Girls 11U-14U PTCs 🎥. She discusses the importance of proper foot positioning when setting in volleyball. In order to set up our hitters for success, we need to keep the ball off the net by using our right foot as a ‘North Star’ to guide our movements. #squadvolleyball #settingtips

All of the best setters in the world have one thing in common: they hide where they’re setting exceptionally well! And their hitters LOVE them for holding the block a little bit longer. Back sets are the toughest to hide for most setters, but one way to work on it is to pretend you’re setting outside until the last possible second. Convince YOURSELF that you’re setting outside, and then flip the set back when it’s actually in your hands. Be warned…this is no easy drill! You may dish some ugly sets when you first try this, but once you get more comfortable it’ll only get easier and easier to hide where you’re setting the ball. Give it a try and let us know how it goes! #volleyball #settingtips

Tag your setter!🏐 Here are some exercises that can be used to develop upper body strength in athletes that are struggling pushing the ball out or getting power in general. Keep in mind that if you're young (generally under 16), you're still developing and may already gain strength as you get older. So don't necessarily think you need something right now to more strength in setting. It will come. Think about a little kid shooting a basketball. Their strength lacks and adjust their technique to get the ball in a 10' net. But as they get older, they get stronger and can pull up easier with more efficient form (if patterns are grooved too). It's a good idea to practice the form early on and not worry that the height of the set isn't like the pros or that you can't dish it out quickly. Anyways, developing general strength is a great way to get upper body strength which can help with the muscles involved in setting too. But these are some other things that can be done alongside. We need to learn how to generate force from the ground up and use it to propel something upward/forward. Medball holds and tosses are great and can be done with big ranges of motion or short like in the video. I wouldn't use too much weight, just enough to add resistance, teach the sequence of propulsion and be explosive. Then, of course, simple volleying is a great way to improve the strength in the arms/hands/fingers for setting. But, most times the ball is being recieved at quicker speeds, so we gotta learn how to accept this too. High-lows are great for training the arms/hands/fingers for recieving and training the more powerful-propulsive sets. i'd also recommend training the hands and fingers! I have some posts on this in my feed as well!
