I didn’t do everything at once — I just focused on the basics first. ✨ I got a SIM card right away It's a must so sa airport pa lng bumili na ako ng sim card, so I can contact family back home and yong house na tutuluyan ko. You have options like telstra, optus, vodafone. I got telstra. ✨ I got an Opal card Eto yong card na gamit dito sa NSW for transpo. You can use it for trains, buses, metro, tram and even ferries. Once you get used to tapping on and off, public transport becomes really easy. ✨ I applied for a Photo ID This is equivalent to National ID sa Pinas. Very important sya for most application here, aside from passport and drivers license, this is one is a must too. ✨ I applied for my TFN Super important before starting work so your tax is set up properly. I made sure to do this early. ✨ I opened a bank account Mabilis lng din process ng pag open ng bank account, so might as well gawin na din early. Madalang ang cash dito, so need talaga may bank account kagad, to get paid salary, pay bills, and even for daily shops and expenses. ✨ I downloaded the apps I needed Tripview for the transport apps, bank apps, google Maps, mygov — anything that made day-to-day life easier. ✨ I familiarised myself with my nearest station Which line, which platform, and which bus station — small things, but huge help, especially on busy days. ✨ I looked for nearby essentials Grocery shop, pharmacy (Chemist), and even a Filipino store — comfort matters when you’re far from home. ✨ I looked and applied for jobs Syempre, kailangan kumayod agad — especially since rent here is weekly and mataas ang cost of living. I prepared in advance kahit nasa Pinas pa lang, by updating my CV, asking for referrals, and checking Pinoy in Australia Facebook pages. It’s overwhelming at first, but take it one step at a time.
