From the girl who said “she never wanted a wedding” Who actually just meant “she never wanted the fuss, the stress, and the expense”… This is to her: 1. You can have a beautiful wedding, that also doesn’t cost a lot. For full transparency, our wedding was under 10k, and honestly it could have been even cheaper. However, we decided to hire our ceremony venue (an Airbnb) for 4 nights to really celebrate before & after which bumped it up. But besides that & the dinner we organised post ceremony, we had everything & everyone we needed. So don’t spend tones, get your priorities clear & save your $ for travel or something that lasts longer than a day 🫶🏻 2. You don’t need to invite everyone, just invite a few. We celebrated in the morning with a lot of our friends who we didn’t invite & it was so fun! 3. You don’t need a grand plan! I hate to burst your bubble, but the day isn’t going to go to plan, so keep it simple & get your friends & family to help. Kyes mum made our cake, my ma our invites & flowers, my brother played guitar, our friends shot the wedding & everyone else lended their hands. Which only made the day more special because it was a reflection of everyone & their love for us. Finally, (this one is going to have some controversy) yes this will be a great day, but it probably will not be “the best day of your life”, because that day is unknown, and cannot be planned. So stop worrying & focus on having fun, it’s your wedding day for goodness sake! 🤭✨ Disclaimer: This may not relate to all (especially those with a bazillion dollars) but, for my everyday people this may help you on your special day. Especially if you’re in the middle of planning , it’s so easy to feel stressed or discouraged when you’re newly engaged and realizing how quickly costs can add up. This is just a gentle reminder that simple weddings are perfect weddings too. And so are big, beautiful, elaborate ones. I’ve spent a little over 8 years photographing love in all its forms. I’ve witnessed breathtaking celebrations, multi-day events, and intimate backyard vows. And what I’ve learned is this: the most meaningful days aren’t defined by size or budget. They’re defined by intention. Some couples feel most themselves in a full room, surrounded by everyone they love, celebrating loudly and extravagantly. Others feel most grounded in something quieter and simpler. Neither is better. Both are valid. Both are beautiful. But the weddings that stay with me most…big or small… are the ones where the focus stays on what truly matters: the marriage, the people, the promises, and the feeling in the room. When things are simpler, there’s often more space to breathe, to be present, to actually feel the day instead of rushing through it. And when things are bigger, there’s a kind of shared joy and energy that fills every corner. At the end of it all, no one remembers every detail. They remember how it felt.
