Some people wonder why certain single moms aren’t dating… why they’re always with their kids… why they’re not outside, not entertaining, not “putting themselves out there.” But what they don’t see is this: She’s not unavailable because nobody wants her. She’s unavailable because she’s locked in. Locked into homework after work. Locked into practice, bedtime routines, grocery runs, and making sure little hearts feel safe and loved. Locked into healing, growing, and building a peaceful life for her children. When you see a mom who’s always with her kids, who doesn’t have time to be out every weekend or texting all day… it’s not because she doesn’t want love. It’s because her priorities are real. And the truth is — when you’re raising kids by yourself, you don’t have time to “date around,” entertain multiple people, or gamble your peace. If someone comes into her life, they’re not just meeting her… they’re stepping into her world. And that world is protected. So no, she’s not hard to get. She’s just not easy to access. Because a good single mom isn’t looking for attention — she’s waiting for alignment, consistency, and someone who understands that. HERE 👇Being a single mum of 4 I’ve had to make a lot of adjustments to balance out my new way of life. With the changes have come incremental lessons. Here’s 5 things I’ve come to realise: 1) We choose our hard. Being in the wrong relationship, or an unhealthy one is hard, being a solo parent is hard. But one will feel harder, we just have to choose which one that is for us. 2) There is always a way out. For the longest time I felt trapped. I felt I had nowhere to turn, no way out. I had broken myself in the process of trying to salvage my marriage & it was at the very bottom that I realised what would happen if I did nothing. I started to communicate my situation with people close to me & was able to slowly navigate each issue one step at a time. 3) We ARE capable. Anything in life is achievable if we are teachable, consistent & problem solve. Best advice I have on this is to ask questions. There is a wealth of knowledge & solutions at your fingertips if we can humble ourselves enough to ask others. 4) It is better for our children to have two happy homes than one unhappy, unhealthy home. We are the role models for their expectations & how they show up for their own partners in the future. Is this example what we would want for their marriage? It’s a heavy question but it’s eye opening. 5) Divorce is grief. I am the happiest I’ve been ever. I cannot even tell you how much I love my life! But I still have waves of grief - triggers are usually the main catalyst for this. It’s okay. Let the thoughts come, acknowledge them, acknowledge that you can miss parts of something you don’t want, relish in the waves of thoughts pondering “how did it even get to this”, & then show yourself grace. Find comfort in knowing that all these moments will pass. You’re not going backwards, you’re just being human. Can we talk about how important both parents are in a child’s life… even when the relationship doesn’t work out. Kids benefit from different kinds of love, perspectives, and guidance. And for single boy moms especially, there’s a quiet weight that comes with raising a future man. You’re teaching kindness, discipline, emotional regulation, responsibility… all while wishing he had a consistent male example watching him, correcting him, modeling what manhood looks like. And here’s the part that needs to be said out loud: it is not a single mom’s fault if the father isn’t present. You can encourage. You can invite. You can make space. But you cannot force someone to show up. What is in your control is building a village. A grandfather. An uncle. A coach. A mentor. A trusted family friend. Strong men don’t come from perfect situations. They come from love, consistency, and guidance—wherever that’s found.
