In a world of plastic bikes and throw away products the longevity and durability of steel is becoming ever more alluring! . . Scolarian Bikes reached out to me and offered me one of their bikes in exchange for feedback and content. Initially, they had suggested one of their fixed gear frames and at the time I’d just built up a new surly for tricks and city riding (I know, that went well) and my squid was as reliable as anything covering off road duties, so I just didn’t see the need for another fixed gear in the fleet, so I pushed for one of their gravel bikes. . . Somy, to my surprise, went for it and we began discussions about specs and colours. With each bike being hand made to order there is huge scope to build your ideal setup. . . Mine is a flat bar Mudfest, painted in beautiful Apollo green metallic with bolt through axles for strength and longevity. Once the specs were decided it was down to the workshop to get it all together. Each bike is hand built in Coimbatore, India at the Scolarian workshop and then shipped out to where it needs to go. . . I’ve had the bike built for a year now and it’s performed flawlessly, from city cruising when I felt too lazy to ride fixed or as my go to bike when things get hilly. It’s surpassed my expectations and I honestly didn’t see myself on a ‘gravel’ bike but it’s been a blast. . . I’ve run through a host of setup changes but with the frame at the heart of the bike performing so reliably it’s only ever been to change aesthetics or upgrade components, what more could you ask? . .
