🚨Breaking News🚨 Meta (instagram, Facebook, and Threads) is beginning to reduce censorship on their platforms, according to CEO @zuck In his announcement, he sited 5 key changes: 1. Replacing Fact-Checkers with Community Notes 2. Simplifying (and reducing) Content Policies — this means less content will be “against” the guidelines and the guidelines overall will be easier to understand. He specifically mentions 2 examples topics that will no longer be censored: immigration and gender 3. New Approach to Policy Enforcement — moving forward, Meta will NOT be constantly scanning 100% of posts, looking for violations, and instead, will rely on “reports” to deem which content needs a review. 4. Bringing Back Civic Content — since 2020, Meta has NOT “recommended” political content in the feed. This means that you would not be shown political content from account you don’t follow. They are now changing that policy to allow political content to be recommendable. 5. Moving their Trust and Safety and Content Moderation Teams — from California to Texas. Overall, this seems like a pretty clear attempt by Zuck and Meta to be in alignment with the incoming US presidential administration. When you consider the potential ban of TikTok and the reported “falling out” that X’s owner, Elon Musk, had with this administration, this alignment seems even more strategic.
