If your 2 year old is suddenly calling you back in 14 times

If your 2 year old is suddenly calling you back in 14 times a night, asking for water, seeing monsters, and refusing the nap they’ve taken for 600 days — welcome. This one is brutal and it’s not what you think. ⠀ 1️⃣ FOMO is a real neurological event at 2. Their world just got interesting. They’re aware of siblings, TV, conversations, the dog. The brain floods with dopamine when something novel is happening, and dopamine is the opposite of melatonin. Going to sleep literally feels like missing out. ⠀ 2️⃣ Nightmares start now because imagination just came online. Around 24 months, kids develop the cognitive ability to picture things that aren’t there. That’s amazing for play. It’s terrible for 3am. Night wakings spike not because sleep broke, but because the brain got more powerful. ⠀ 3️⃣ The big kid bed is usually the wrong call right now. Most 2 year olds are not developmentally ready to stay in an open bed. If this “regression” started within a month of the bed switch, that’s your answer. The crib wasn’t the problem. ⠀ 4️⃣ The schedule still works. Their protest is not data. Sleep needs at 2 are incredibly predictable — about 11 hours overnight plus a 1 to 2 hour nap. But the window to catch that nap is narrow and moving. You can’t track this in your head anymore. The math keeps changing. ⠀ I use an app called Napcue for exactly this. It learns my baby’s real patterns, tracks wake windows automatically, and tells me when the sleepy window is about to open — before we crash past it. ⠀ It turned bedtime from guesswork into a notification on my phone. ⠀ Get NapCue at the link in bio @napcueapp 💜 #babysleep #newbornmom #mumlifeuk #stayathomemum #sleepregression

When your kids don’t sleep standards slip, and that’s ok. Here’s things I managed this week that 18 months ago I would never have believed: 1) brushed my teeth morning and night EVERY day 2) went to the gym twice, in the evening (because I actually get one now) 3) went out for dinner with a friend 4) fell asleep in my own bed, and stayed there all night (not every night this week but several!) 5) held a whole conversation with my husband without an undercurrent of resentment and competition of who is more tired If you’re in this stage right now, I see you 🤍 Share in the comments, my tiny corner of the internet is very supportive 🥰 Or my DMs are open for chats, rants or just a little encouragement that it’ll does get better ❤️‍🩹 #Sleepdeprivation #bedtimeroutine #babysleep #sleepregression #tiredmumsclub

Did you know these were signs of self settling❓ I had absolutely no clue first time round! Watching my little one turning his head from side to side and back again whilst slamming his legs into the mattress. Who knew he was trying to self settle 🤷🏼‍♀️ A more obvious sign of self settling is sucking on their thumb/fingers/comforter. This is due to their strong in-built sucking reflex which is why offering a feed or dummy can also really comfort them when they’re upset. Sometimes this can lead to sleep associations however that then mean babies are then waking VERY frequently to be fed or have their dummy replaced. If this works for you it’s certainly not a problem though! Other signs can be: 💤 intermittent shouting/crying - this certainly doesn’t mean prolonged crying or leaving your little one alone to cry BUT some little ones (especially the ones that fight their sleep) can often do these intermittent shouts/cries as they’re drifting off to sleep. Basically because they aren’t happy about it and don’t particularly want to go to sleep they’re having a little protest about it 😬. The silences in between usually come longer as they start to fall asleep. I’d recommend trying to leave them to it if possible as long as they aren’t too distressed. 💤 groaning/moaning - this is so common and again a sure sign that that they’re drifting off. A lot of families start recognising these sounds that signal they are settling themselves to sleep. With all things baby sleep though, they’re all different and we all have different opinions so just do what works for your little one ☺️ Does your little one do any of the above? 👆🏼 Make sure you TAG and SHARE to spread the word to other parents who may not know about these signs‼️

The crap naps can really come in HOT with the 3 month regression.🙌🏻 Crap naps are when your baby wakes up as soon as you put them down, or they will only nap 20-30 minutes. 🙃 Here are some tips I hope will help! 🌟Save the nap If you have the capacity, it can really pay off both in the short term and long term if you can help your baby extend their nap to at least an hour. Rock them back to sleep and know that this not only helps prevent overtiredness but it will pay off later when you start teaching nap lengthening skills at 4 months! 🌟Wait it out Hang in there and just ride it out! You can do multiple short naps a day and just salvage the naps you can. Hang in there and know that even though it feels like the longest month ever, soon your baby will be 4 months and you can start teaching them independent sleep skills! Did you know I have a blog post on the 3 month sleep regression?! Comment 3 MONTH REGRESSION in the comments and I’ll DM it to you! 💕 #3monthsleepregression #sleepregression #crapnaps #babysleepconsultant #sleeplearning #thepeacefulsleeper
