My latest commission The one ring Sol ring Hand painted alter I was issued a challenge - can I do the text with the surge foil showing through. I added to the challenge for myself that I only wanted to do it if I could make the text gold (instead of the base silver colour of the foil) and have bits of it shaded to oranges and reds to replicate the glow of the rings text And I loved it ☺️ Now I want to see if I can do text box text in foil - insanity??? Yep… but why not! And my first serialised Jay Alters - as requested by the customer ☺️ nice idea! Progress video of the Sol Ring alter! This alrer is still up for auction until 7th of Feb 2026! Check the link in my bio. Working with the gold leaf on a MTG alter was a challenge. There are so many ways to go about it honestly. I wanted the paint underneath the card to first be varnished so when applying the gold leaf it would not get damaged, this was a small mistake 😅 Because the gold leaf did not want to stick to the varnish layer. But with the help of some other alter artists we found a way to save it! I painted over the varnish where I wanted the gold leaf to be later. This worked out well in the end and I got the look I was hoping for. Here and there the gold leaf looks a bit rough but I think that adds to the vibe of the alter! #mtg #mtgalter #mtgcommander #mtgcollection #handpainted
